UNIONTOWN, OH—As many customers can attest, Lucas Moreland is a very likeable guy. It wasn’t any different in high school, where he was popular student and athlete. Lucas attended a local school in the small town in which he grew up, New Philadelphia High School. He and his family have strong ties to the local community. He now lives in the town that he grew up in, and is often still seen at local sporting events; especially varsity football games. It would be an understatement to say he's supportive of his old high school and the local community.

So when representatives from the Rubber Division—American Chemical Society, approached ChemSpec representatives to help with a high school student learning program that occurs annually at the International Elastomer Conference (occurring in early October in Cleveland), Lucas jumped at the opportunity to get New Philadelphia students involved. Lucas coordinated with his friend, Dave Lautenschleger, Vice Principal at New Philadelphia, for a group of students from the N.P.H.S. “Project Lead the Way” organization to attend the Elastomer Conference, along with other Northeast Ohio High School student groups. During the day-trip to Cleveland to attend this large trade show, the students conducted experiments with polymer chemistry, and also got to walk the show floor and get to know industry representatives. It was a good experience for the students, who got to see how business and chemistry works in real-world applications.
